Tailwater fisheries are created at the outflow from large dams. The constant cold water current provided by the reservoir’s outflow, coupled with the generally silt free nature of the outflow creates ideal water conditions for a robust trout population. In May 2004, the TVA Board of Directors approved a new policy that regulates the operations of the Tennessee River and reservoir system. This new policy will help enhance the recreation opportunities on tributary storage reservoirs while also meeting the needs for protecting water quality and aquatic resources.
