Our Fly Fishing Guides

Jay grew up fishing for bass and other warm water species as a child in ponds and lakes in Georgia and Florida. He began fly fishing on small farm ponds after receiving a fly rod for Christmas at age 13 and quickly graduated to small streams and rivers.
He resided on the headwaters of the Tallulah River for almost a year, where he pursued trout on North Georgia and North Carolina streams nearly every day before deciding to move to the High Country five years ago.
He has guided for wild trout on small streams in North Carolina, Virginia and Tennessee as well as both the New River and Nolichucky River for smallmouth.

John grew up in Greenville, SC where his grandfather taught him how to fly fish on small streams in the mountains of northwest SC. Matt grew up fishing the lakes and ponds in the Piedmont around the Raleigh area. From the time he could hold one he had a fishing rod in his hand, and when he turned 10 his father introduced him to the world of fly fishing. He was taught how to fly fish in the Wilson Creek area and after he caught his first trout his passion for fly fishing began.
Over the years Matt explored more and more streams and rivers both in NC and TN; he has also made his mark out west fishing in Montana, Wyoming and Colorado.

Nathan grew up a short drive off the mountain in Kernersville, NC. As a child his father took him fishing as soon as he was big enough to hold a rod. They fished throughout NC from trout to saltwater fish up and down the coast to everything in between.
During his high school years he began focusing on fly fishing for trout, saltwater surf fishing for red fish and tournament fishing for bass.
Nathan moved to Boone in 2000 and discovered the tailwaters of Eastern TN; that combined with his knowledge of the local streams landed him a job guiding both in NC and Jackson Hole, Wyoming.

Pace was born in Atlanta, Georgia where, believe it or not, he caught any fish within a 2 mile radius. At 7 years old, he attended a week long fishing camp on Lake Seminole in southern Georgia where he first used a fly rod. Bass and bream were his primary targets with a few Georgia shell-crackers to spice things up.
Pace attended the University of Georgia and studied zoology. He moved to Boone in 1993 so he could be closer to his passions like rock climbing and mountain biking. He loved the High Country so much, he stayed and attended graduate school at Appalachian State for several years studying saw-whet owls.

Growing up, his interest in fishing expanded from freshwater fishing to saltwater fishing to fly fishing. He broadened his fly fishing realm from the mountains of South Carolina to the mountains of North Carolina, Tennessee and beyond.
