Foscoe Fishing Company Guide - Scott Farfone

Scott’s love of the outdoors began at an early age and his adventurous attitude is hereditary. As a young child he caught his first fish on a Zebco rod and was “hooked” from that point on. Scott’s passion for fishing is evident in everything he does, whether he is fishing, teaching, guiding, helping customers and even working in his office.

Growing up, his interest in fishing expanded from freshwater fishing to saltwater fishing to fly fishing. He broadened his fly fishing realm from the mountains of South Carolina to the mountains of North Carolina, Tennessee and beyond. He has fished from Florida to Maine as well as the Western Rockies, Montana, Wyoming, Colorado and Canada to mention a few.

When he doesn’t have a rod in his hand and can find some spare time, he is pursuing his other passion, hunting. He is especially excited to share the outdoors with his wife, Dottie, and their daughter, Brooke, who even at the age of 2 has managed to hold a fly rod on her own.

Fishporn, the answer to winter blues!

Fly Fishing Videos are the key to making it through the days when you just can’t get outside and wet a line.  In recent years fly fishing videos have gotten better and better.   Both the quality of the video and the material is amazing.  The popularity of fly fishing film festivals is definitely helping as well.

Here are a few of my favorite DVD’s:  Rise, Drift, Nervous Water, Trout Bum (part 1 and 2) and Fish Bum to name a few.  Don’t forget about the great educational videos, there are several fly tying instructional videos as well as videos targeting specific species and techniques.

So when you have the winter blues grab the latest fly fishing dvd or call the shop order one and we’ll ship it to your door.  Also, don’t forget about the many free videos available on our site.  Thanks and Tight Lines!

Small Stream Fishing Tips

The fall is a great time to fish small wild streams, a good bit of the shrubs have died back from the frosts and you can get to areas you could’t normally in the summer.

The fish in these areas are typically very healthy and willing to eat just about any fluffy dry fly that comes their way. They are spooky so light tippet (6X or 7X) and light presentations are important.

You can expect 6 to 9 inch fish with the possibility of a 10 inch plus so a 2 or 3 weight 6 to 7 foot rod is my weapon of choice.  Remeber these are fragile fisheries so be overly delicate handling the fish and ALWAYS RELEASE!  Good Fishing!
